Darkroom - Anshitsu

A workroom required for handling and processing light-sensitive materials that are not light-shielded in photography. Darkrooms must be completely light-shielded, dust-free, well-ventilated, and low-humidity, and a temperature-controlled room is ideal. General darkrooms have a worktable for enlargers and printing paper, and a sink for developing. The sink is made of stainless steel or polyvinyl chloride, which is resistant to acids and alkalis. They are often equipped with ventilation fans and air conditioners for ventilation. Safelights suitable for each light-sensitive material are used for work lighting. In recent years, the trend has been to perform all work except for those that can only be done in a darkroom in a light room, and in specialized developing labs, only the loading of light-sensitive materials is done in the darkroom, and the rest is processed by machines in a light room. Generally, small developing tanks that only load film in a darkroom or dark bag (light-shielding bag), darkless developers that can process in a light room, and darkless enlarger developers are widely used.

写真の作業で、遮光されていない写真感光材料を取り扱ったり、処理するために必要な作業室。暗室は遮光が完全であるとともに、ほこりが少なく、換気がよく、湿気が少ないことがたいせつで、恒温室が理想的である。一般用の暗室は、引伸し機や印画紙を置く作業台と、現像などを行う流しがある。流しは、酸やアルカリに耐えるステンレスや塩化ビニル製が用いられる。通風用に換気扇と換気窓を装着し、冷暖房機が設置されていることが多い。作業用照明にはそれぞれの感光材料に適応したセーフライト（安全光）を用いる。近年は、暗室でなければできない作業以外は明室で行う方向に進み、専門の現像所では、感光材料の装填(そうてん)のみを暗室で行い、あとは明室にある機械で処理するようになった。一般には、フィルム装填のみを暗室やダークバッグ（遮光袋）内で行う小型現像タンクや、明室で処理できるダークレス現像器、ダークレス引伸し現像器などが普及している。
