…American weekly news magazine. Founded in 1933 by British-born journalist Thomas J.C. Martyn, with the editorial policy of "digging into the facts behind the news, exploring their meaning, and reporting thoroughly." For a long time it followed in the footsteps of Time and was often criticized for copying Time, but in 1961 it was acquired by the Washington Post Company, and when Osborne Elliott became editor-in-chief, it was given a makeover and became one of the most popular magazines of the 1960s.
