A temple built in a vast sanctuary (129m x 206m) stretching from east to west, about 500m southeast of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. Its name means "Temple of Olympian Zeus." It was the largest temple on the Greek mainland, and the first to fully adopt Corinthian columns. It has a long horizontal plan with a base of 41m x 108m, and has a total of 104 columns (16.89m high), with three rows of eight columns on the east and west sides and two rows of 20 columns on the north and south sides. It was originally planned as a Doric temple made of poros (porous stone) around 515 BC by the sons of the tyrant Peisistratos, and the plan of a double peripteral colonnade and its size were maintained until the end.
