...Then, the Byrom system (1767) and the Taylor system (1786) appeared and were used in newspapers, and in 1803, the Hansard's Parliamentary Debates, the minutes of parliamentary sessions, were also written in shorthand. Then, in 1837, Isaac Pitman's (1813-97) system was introduced, and it spread widely to business and daily life. In 1887, the first International Shorthand Congress was held in London to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Pitman system and the 300th anniversary of the Bright system, and stenographers from all over the world gathered together.
