King of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt (reigned circa 1402-1364 BC). Daughter of Thutmose IV and the Mitanni princess. He ascended to the throne at the height of the Egyptian Empire's prosperity, and as can be seen in the Amarna Letters, he maintained international peace in Western Asia with Egypt at its center, and carried out large-scale construction projects in Karnak and Luxor. The Colossi of Memnon are seated statues of him. He paved the way for the reforms of the next king, Amenhotep IV (Akhenaten). →Related article Amarna Period | Luxor Temple Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
