Also called an ohmmeter. An instrument for easily measuring electrical resistance, with the scale marked in Ω, the unit of resistance. It works by using the relationship voltage ÷ current = resistance to measure the current when a constant voltage is applied, or the voltage when a constant current is flowing. There are various types of ohmmeters depending on the object being measured and the range of resistance values. The most common ohmmeter applies a constant voltage and measures the current flowing through a resistor with a moving coil type instrument. The resistance measurement section of a tester (circuit meter) uses this principle. A device that amplifies and indicates the voltage when a constant AC current is applied and measures low resistance on the order of milliohms is called a milliohmmeter, and a device that measures the contact resistance of contacts is called a contact resistance meter.

抵抗計ともいう。電気抵抗の測定を簡単に行う計器で，目盛は抵抗の単位Ωで示される。原理は電圧÷電流＝抵抗の関係を用い，一定電圧を加えた場合の電流測定，または一定電流を流した場合の電圧測定による。測定対象と抵抗値の範囲により各種のオーム計がある。一定電圧を印加し，抵抗体を流れる電流を可動コイル形計器で測定するものがもっとも一般的なオーム計である。テスター(回路計)の抵抗測定部はこの原理を用いている。一定交流電流を加えた場合の電圧を増幅指示させ，mΩオーダーの低抵抗を測るものをミリオームメーター，接点の接触抵抗を測定するものを接点抵抗計と呼ぶ。
