Poisoning caused by chemical substances generated at industrial sites. It can be said to be an occupational disease caused by chemical factors. There are many types of poisoning, including harmful gases such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide, metals such as lead and chromium, dust, organic solvents such as benzene and acetone, acids, alkalis, and synthetic resins. Some substances (such as organic solvents) irritate the skin or mucous membranes or penetrate the body through the skin, but many enter the body mainly through the airways and the lungs, exerting their toxicity. Some have existed for a long time, such as lead poisoning and pneumoconiosis, but most are caused by new chemical substances. To prevent industrial poisoning, methods such as sealed facilities, ventilation systems, substitution with harmless substances, and the use of occupational health protective equipment are taken to prevent contact with harmful substances. In addition, it is important to detect health problems early through regular health checkups.

産業の現場で発生する化学物質による中毒のこと。職業病のうちの化学的要因によるものといえる。一酸化炭素，硫化水素などの有害ガス，鉛，クロムなどの金属，粉塵，ベンゼン，アセトンなどの有機溶剤，酸，アルカリ，合成樹脂など多くの有害物質による中毒が存在する。皮膚や粘膜を刺激したり，皮膚から侵入する物質 (有機溶剤など) もあるが，多くは主として気道を通って肺から体内に入り毒性を発揮する。鉛中毒や塵肺のように古くから存在するものもあるが，新しい化学物質によるものが多い。産業中毒の予防には，有害物質に接触しないように密閉設備，換気装置，無害なものへの代替，労働衛生保護具の使用などの方法をとる。そのほか，定期的な健康診断によって健康障害を早期に発見することも大切である。
