A former town in Kita District, western Ehime Prefecture. Facing the Iyo Nada Sea, it occupies the area around the mouth of the Hiji River. The main settlement, Nagahama, was a port town where the Ozu Domain's ship magistrate's office and river mouth guardhouse were located, and after the opening of the Yosan Line, it developed as a shipping port for lumber, ore, etc. Cultivation of citrus fruits, shiitake mushrooms, etc. is thriving. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Ozu City along with Kita District's Hijikawa Town and Kawabe Village. 74.79 km2 . Population 9,381 (2003). 愛媛県西部,喜多郡の旧町。伊予灘に面し,肱(ひじ)川の河口一帯を占める。主集落長浜は大洲藩の船奉行所,河口番所のあった港町で,予讃線開通後は木材,鉱石などの積出港として発展。柑橘(かんきつ)類,シイタケなどの栽培が盛ん。2005年1月喜多郡肱川町,河辺村と大洲市へ編入。74.79km2。9381人(2003)。
