Ohm, Georg Simon
Born: March 16, 1789 in Erlangen
Died July 6, 1854, Munich German physicist. Known for Ohm's law. In 1817 he became a professor of mathematics at the Jesuit College in Cologne, and in 1833 he became a professor at the Technical University of Nuremberg, before becoming a professor at the University of Munich in 1849. In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded the Copley Medal by the Royal Society in 1841, and became a foreign member the following year in 1842. The unit of electrical resistance, the ohm, is named after him. His main work is Die galvanische Kette, mathematisch bearbeitet (1827), a mathematical study of the galvanic circuit.

Ohms
ohm

The SI derived unit of electrical resistance. The symbol is Ω. When a voltage of 1V is applied between two points on a conductor, and the current flowing through the conductor is 1A, the electrical resistance between two points is 1Ω. The standard value of resistance was given using a cross capacitor, but since 1990 it has been realized based on the quantum Hall effect. The resistance of a 1m3 cube of a material is called resistivity, and its unit is Ω·m. The unit is named after the GS ohm.

ohm
