The superfamily Phyllostomatoidea includes the Pterygota bats, whose tails are either tailless or project outside the interfemoral membrane and have nose lobes, and the short-haired Pterygota bats. The superfamily Vespertilionoidea includes the family Leptoleptidae, which have no nose lobes and a prominent tragus, the family Lapwing bats, which have a vestigial first digit, the family Pterygotae, which have a claw and sucker on the first digit, the family Salamander bats, which have a fused tragus and pinna, the family Vespertilionoidea, which have a well-developed tragus, the family Lesser Pterygotae, which have a short tail that protrudes upward from near the center of the upper surface of the femoral membrane, and the family Pterygotae, which have a short femoral membrane and a long tail that protrudes backward from its posterior edge.
