Japanese: オナガ(尾長) - オナガ（英語表記）azure‐winged magpie

A passerine bird of the crow family (illustration). As its name suggests, it has a long tail, a slender body, and gorgeous plumage that makes it hard to believe it is a crow. This bird is also interesting because it has two widely separated distribution areas: one is the Iberian Peninsula, and the other is the Lake Baikal region, eastern China, the Korean Peninsula, and Japan. Even within Japan, it is currently distributed locally from central Honshu northward, and is quite common in some areas of the Kanto Plain, for example, but there are many neighboring areas where this species is not found.

スズメ目カラス科の鳥（イラスト）。名のように尾が長く，スマートな体型で，カラスの仲間とはとても思えない華やかな羽色をしている。この鳥は，またその分布域が2地域に遠く離れている点からも興味深い。すなわち，分布域の一つはイベリア半島で，他の一つはバイカル湖地方，中国東部，朝鮮半島，日本である。日本国内においても，現在本州中部以北に局地的に分布し，例えば関東平野の一部の地域ではごくふつうの鳥であるが，近隣の地域でもこの種が分布していないところが多い。
