...The Benedictine Rule became the most widely applied rule, due to the encouragement of kings. Pope Hadrian created the liturgical book Hadriana to abolish the Gallic rite in these churches and monasteries and to have the Roman rite uniformly performed in them. The economy at that time was mainly dependent on large estates, as shown in the polypfiquer of the monasteries and Charlemagne's Capitularia de villis (770-800), probably due to the interruption of the circulation of goods caused by the isolation of Western Europe, but this phenomenon began earlier than the economic historian Pirenne thought, in the 5th or 6th century. ...
