Sighisoara

A historic city in the center of Transylvania, Romania. It was founded in the 12th and 13th centuries by artisans and merchants from Saxony, Germany. The fortress on the hill was strengthened in preparation for the Mongol invasion of 1241, and watchtowers and defensive walls were added in the 14th century. The city prospered under more than 10 guilds in the 15th and 16th centuries. The clock tower, built in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 17th century, still has a functioning 17th-century mechanical clock. In the commercial and industrial district at the foot of the hill, you can see red-roofed streets reminiscent of medieval Germany. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1999.

ルーマニアのトランシルバニア地方の中央部にある歴史都市。12世紀から13世紀にドイツのザクセン地方出身者の職人や商人によって築かれた都市である。丘の上の防塞は1241年のモンゴル帝国の侵攻に備えて増強され，14世紀には見張り塔や防壁が整えられた。15世紀から16世紀には10を超えるギルドの下で繁栄した。14世紀に建造され17世紀に再建された時計塔には，17世紀につくられた〈からくり時計〉が今も機能している。丘の麓の商工業地区では中世ドイツさながらの赤い屋根の町並みが見られる。1999年世界文化遺産に登録。
