Aji stone

A regional brand of Kagawa prefecture in the Shikoku region.
Garden stones made from natural stone and gravestone materials produced in Ajicho and Murecho, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, as well as lanterns, gravestones, grave markers, gravestone plaques, and stone sculptures made from stone produced in Ajicho and Murecho, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture and processed in the same town. Ajistone is a type of granite, a hard rock mainly composed of quartz and feldspar with small amounts of biotite and amphibole. Ajicho and Murecho have long been famous as one of the leading stone producing areas in Japan. Its hardness is almost the same as that of quartz, making it easy to carve, and it is resistant to weathering and deterioration because it does not absorb water easily. When biotite is densely mixed into the surface of a well-polished stone, it creates a mottled pattern with light and shade, which is called mottling, and the appearance of this phenomenon is its most distinctive feature. A traditional craft of Kagawa Prefecture. It was registered as a regional collective trademark by the Japan Patent Office in March 2007. The trademark registration number is No. 5030818. The owners of the regional collective trademark are the Sanuki Stone Processing Cooperative, the Aji Stone Development Cooperative, and the Aji Stone Promotion Association.

四国地方、香川県の地域ブランド。
香川県高松市庵治町・牟礼町において産出された墓用・石碑用石材・自然石を使用してなる庭石ならびに香川県高松市庵治町・牟礼町において産出された石材を使用し同町で加工された灯ろう・墓石・墓標及び墓碑用銘板・石製彫刻。庵治石は花崗岩の一種で、石英と長石を主成分とする少量の黒雲母と角閃石を含む硬い岩石。庵治町・牟礼町は昔から国内有数の石材産地として有名である。水晶とほぼ同等の硬度のため細工がしやすく、水を含みにくいため風化・変質にも強い。よく研磨した石の表面に黒雲母が緻密に入ってまだらな地模様に濃淡が出ることを斑と呼び、その現象が現れることが一番の特徴。香川県伝統的工芸品。2007(平成19)年3月、特許庁の地域団体商標に登録された。商標登録番号は第5030818号。地域団体商標の権利者は、讃岐石材加工協同組合・庵治石開発協同組合・協同組合庵治石振興会。
