A traditional children's game. A handful of six bamboo spatulas (sometimes five to twelve), each about 17 or 18 centimeters long, 2 centimeters wide, and 3 millimeters thick, are lightly thrown up and caught on the back of the hand. The players then slide them to the floor, competing to get them all to land heads or tails. There are many regional names for this game, including Hattan-gaeshi (Ehime), Nanatsutake (Kyoto), Take-nango (Niigata), and Rokkasen (Fukushima). It is said to have existed since the Keicho era (1596-1615), and the name Take-gaeshi appears in Kiyu Shoran (1830).
