〘Noun〙 (also "Ujihito") 1. A member of a clan. They use the same family name, worship the clan god under the leadership of the clan's head , and have a strong sense of solidarity with each other. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 18.4100 "The 80 clan members of warriors will continue to serve the Yoshino River without interruption." 2. A person who does not hold a specific priestly position, but gathers at the festival of the clan god and serves it. ※Santaka Koki - August 23, 1476 (8th year of Bunmei) "Indeed, today Kamo Shrine was burned down, and over 30 clan members were killed, etc."

〘名〙 (「うじひと」とも)① 氏族の構成員。同姓を名乗り、氏の上(かみ)に率いられて氏神をまつり、相互に強い連帯意識をもつ。※万葉（８Ｃ後）一八・四一〇〇「もののふの八十氏人(うぢひと)も吉野川絶ゆることなく仕へつつ見む」② 一定の神官職につかないが、氏神の祭に参集し、奉仕する人。※実隆公記‐文明八年（1476）八月二三日「抑今日賀茂社炎上、氏人卅余人死云々」
