Cavalcanti - Guido Cavalcanti

Italian poet. Born into a noble family in Florence that had been Guelph (supporters of the Pope) for generations, he formed a friendship with Dante, and among his 52 surviving poems, there are 36 sonnets addressed to Dante and Guittone d'Arezzo. He is the most important poet of the Reformed School, except for Dante, who dedicated his work "Vita Nova" to him. However, Cavalcanti recognized the existence of death alongside the supreme joy in "love," and his works are always shadowed by a dark shadow. He held a key position in the Florentine government, and was in sharp conflict with the Donati family. He was exiled to Sarasana in June 1300, but was pardoned and returned to Florence two months later, where he died the same year.

イタリアの詩人。代々ゲルフ党（教皇派）に属するフィレンツェの名家の出身で、ダンテと親交を結び、現存する詩52編のなかには、ダンテやグイットーネ・ダレッツォに宛(あ)てられたソネット（十四行詩）も36編収められている。ダンテを除けば清新体派のもっとも重要な詩人で、ダンテ自ら『新生』をカバルカンティに捧(ささ)げている。ただし、カバルカンティは「愛(アモーレ)」のうちに至上の喜びと隣り合わせた死の存在を認めており、彼の作品にはつねに暗い影がつきまとっている。フィレンツェ市政の要職につき、ドナーティ家と鋭く対立して、1300年6月にはサラザーナに流刑されたが特赦によって2か月後にフィレンツェに帰り、その年のうちに没した。
