Jonston's "Pictorial Book of Birds, Animals and Fishes", and Albert Seba's (1665-1736) "Catalogue of Specimens in the Collection" all switched to copying actual specimens. However, during this period, many counterfeit specimens of monsters, including dragons, were sold, and as a result, it was impossible to escape the spell of medieval monsterology. ...
