Armenian thinker and codifier. Also known as Mekhitar Gosh. Born in Ganzak, he studied in Eastern Armenia and Cilicia. With the support of the ruler Zakarian family, he founded the Norgetic monastery and established a college there. The Code of Mkhitar Gosh, which he compiled in 1184, consisting of two parts, church law and secular law, became the main source of Armenian law thereafter. While supporting the feudal system from a legal perspective, it also restricted the arbitrary use of feudal lords against peasants.

アルメニアの思想家，法典編纂者。メヒタル･ゴーシュMekhitar Goshとも呼ばれる。ガンザクに生まれ，東アルメニアとキリキア各地で研鑽（けんさん）を積む。領主ザハリアン家の援助を受けて，ノルゲティク修道院を開き，ここに学院を置いた。彼が1184年に編んだ教会法と世俗法の2部からなる〈ムヒタル･ゴーシュ法典〉は，以降アルメニア法の主要な法源となったが，封建制を法律面から援護する一方，農民に対する領主の恣意も制限している。
