…Albrecht was an exemplary feudal lord, reforming administration and finances, establishing church order, and founding the University of Königsberg (1544). However, his son, Albrecht Friedrich, who succeeded him in 1568, was stupid and soon became mentally disabled, so several regents were appointed in succession, and in 1618, his son-in-law, Johann Sigismund, Elector of Brandenburg (since 1608), Duke of Prussia (1618-19), inherited the Duchy of Prussia. From this point on, the Duchy of Prussia was ruled by successive electors of Brandenburg in a personal union under the House of Hohenzollern, but Poland's suzerainty over Prussia continued to exist. …
