Yuma Kojima - Ojimasusukema

Japanese:
Yuma Kojima - Ojimasusukema

A Chinese philosophy researcher born in Kochi Prefecture. Graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Letters of Kyoto Imperial University. Later became a professor in the Faculty of Letters of the same university (specializing in the history of Chinese philosophy). In 1920 (Taisho 9), together with Honda Shigeyuki (1882-1945) and Aoki Masaru, he founded the magazine Shina-gaku (Sinology). This magazine was a groundbreaking milestone in clearing away the Edo-period sinology odor that had remained in Japanese Sinology research up until that point. Kojima's research into Chinese philosophy is based on a materialist historical view methodology, and he attempts to explain the thought of Confucius or Mozi, for example, from the social environment behind them. Moreover, he is more interested in the political and economic theories of Confucius and Mozi than in their ethical theories. He was also quick to absorb the folkloric methodology of French Sinology. His books include Studies in Ancient China, Social Thought in China, and Nakae Chomin.
