Minteki

Japanese:
Minteki

A wind instrument used in Japanese Ming music and Ming and Qing music. It was introduced to China during the Qing dynasty and is also called the Shinteki. It is a transverse flute about 2 shaku 2 sun (67 cm) long, with a long, slender bamboo tube decorated on both ends with ivory or Chinese wood. The bamboo tube has a mouthpiece at the top, then a sound hole, the surface of which is covered with a thin membrane (thin bamboo skin or paper). This is to obtain a tonal effect from the vibration of the membrane. There are also six finger holes at the bottom, and two holes called decorative holes on the front and back of the bottom end. A decorative string is attached to the hole on the back.
