Princess Oshisaka - Princess Oshisaka

Japanese:
Princess Oshisaka - Princess Oshisaka

She was the Empress of Emperor Ingyō, as recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon shoki. Her father was Prince Wakanokefutamata, the son of Emperor Ojin (in the Kojiki she is Prince Wakanokefutamata, in the Jogūki she is Prince Wakanokefutamata). Her mother was Momoshiki Iroben, also known as Otohimemawakahime. The Kojiki also mentions her as Oshisakano-Ōnakatsuhime. She gave birth to five sons and four daughters, including Emperor Ankō and Emperor Yūryaku. After Emperor Hanzei's death, Prince Oasazuma Wakugo no Sukune (later Emperor Ingyo) refused to ascend to the throne, citing poor health, despite being recommended by the ministers. His wife, Princess Oshisaka Oonaka, poured water for her hands and begged him to accept the throne, which convinced him to do so. After she became empress, she sought out Tsugenokuni no Miyatsuko, blamed him for his past rudeness, and had him change his surname to Inagi, degrading his name. It was also discovered that on the day the empress was due to give birth to Yuryaku, Ingyo had been visiting the empress's younger sister, Princess Sotooshi no Iratsume. This caused the empress to resent the situation and set fire to the birthing palace, intending to kill herself, but Ingyo is said to have consoled the empress. It is said that he appointed Osakabe as his representative throughout the country. In addition, the Kojiki also mentions Oshisaka Ōnakahime as a child of Emperor Ojin and Kagurohime.
