…The illustrations of the calendar in the “Prayer of the Most Splendid Hours” produced by the Limbourg brothers for the Duke of Berry are elegantly stylized, and are considered a masterpiece of the International Gothic style, with detailed observations of the daily life of kings and peasants against the background of the castles on the Duke's estate. Other representative artists from various regions include the painter of the “Třeboň Altarpiece” in Bohemia (date of birth and death unknown), the “St. Veronica Painter” in Cologne (date of birth and death unknown), Konrad von Soest in Dortmund (c. 1370-c. 1425), and Meister Franke in Hamburg. The flowing forms seen in the panel paintings and small sculptures of the Madonna and Child produced mainly in Bohemia during this period are often called the “Weicher Style”. …
