A port town in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, a city in the southwest of South Africa. It faces False Bay on the eastern side of the Cape Peninsula. Its name comes from Simon van der Stel, the governor of the Cape Colony. It was a naval port during the British colonial period and even after independence.
