...It is one of the important rock-forming minerals, belongs to the cubic crystal system, and is a general term for a group of minerals belonging to the garnet group with the chemical composition R II 3 R III 2 Si 3 O 12 (where R II is Ca, Mg, Fe 2+ , Mn, and R III is Al, Fe 3+ , Cr, etc.). The end members are pyrope (Mg 3 Al 2 Si 3 O 12 ) , almandine (Fe 3 Al 2 Si 3 O 12 ) , spessartine (Mn 3 Al 2 Si 3 O 12 ) , grossular (Ca 3 Al 2 Si 3 O 12 ) , andradite (Ca 3 Fe 2 Si 3 O 12 ) , uvarovite (Ca 3 Cr 2 Si 3 O 12 ) , knorringite (Mg 3 Cr 2 Si 3 O 12 ) and hydrogrossular (Ca 3 Al 2 Si 2 O 8 (SiO 4 ) 1~ m (OH) 4 m ) in which some of the Si has been replaced by 4(OH).
