This mountain range is on the border between Yamagata and Niigata prefectures and is also called the Asahi Mountain Range. The highest peak is Oasahi-dake (1,870m), followed by Koasahi-dake (1,648m) to the northeast and Nishiasahi-dake (1,814m) to the northwest. The terrain is an eroded uplifted mountain massif, and is composed of granite. The mountainous area is covered with virgin beech forests and also grows dwarf pine. Squirrels, martens, and Japanese serows live here. Asahi-dake Shrine is located near the summit. From the summit, you can see the Iide Mountain Range to the south, Mt. Zao to the east, Mt. Gassan to the north, and the Sea of Japan to the west, and the magnificent views are famous. In Oisawa, there is a natural history museum that displays the flora and fauna of Mt. Asahi. It belongs to Bandai-Asahi National Park. Climbing bases include Asahi Mineral Springs, Gomizawa, Oku-Mitsumen, and Oisawa. 山形・新潟両県の県境にある連山で朝日連峰ともいう。最高峰は大朝日岳 (1870m) で,北東に小朝日岳 (1648m) ,北西に西朝日岳 (1814m) がある。隆起山塊が浸食された地形で,花崗岩質より成る。山地はブナの原生林におおわれ,ハイマツも生育。リス,テン,カモシカなどが生息。頂上近くに朝日岳神社がある。頂上からは南方に飯豊連峰を,東方に蔵王山を望み,北方には月山,西方には日本海が見え,その雄大な眺望は有名。大井沢に朝日岳の動植物を集めた自然博物館がある。磐梯朝日国立公園に属する。登山基地は朝日鉱泉,五味沢,奥三面,大井沢など。
