Star of Africa - afrika no hoshi

…There are two crowns currently used by the British royal family. The St. Edward's Crown, which has been used since Charles II (coronation in 1661), is made of pure gold and is heavy (about 30 kg), so it is only ceremonially placed on the head of the king during the coronation ceremony. The Imperial State Crown, made for Queen Victoria's coronation, is used on the way home from the coronation and afterwards. The latter is set in platinum and decorated with over 2,300 diamonds, about 300 pearls, more than 10 sapphires, emeralds, and several rubies. Among the diamonds is the 309-carat Star of Africa (which is only inserted when the crown is not in use), and among the rubies is the Black Prince, a small hen's egg-sized (over 5 cm). Among the historical crowns passed down by various kings of the past, the crown of Lombardy, made by Maximilian II in 1570, is called the Iron Crown because the nails from the cross on which Christ was crucified are hammered out and attached to the inside of the crown in the shape of a ribbon.
