Son of Frederick I, Margrave of Brandenburg in Germany. In 1464, he inherited the Principality of Krumbach-Bayreuth, and attempted to establish the Duchy of Franconia by taking control of Nuremberg, but failed. In 1470, he succeeded his brother Frederick II as Margrave and Elector of Brandenburg, and in 1473, the family law established the indivisibility of the margraviate and the eldest son's succession. As a commander of the imperial army, he played an important role in the imperial reforms under Emperor Frederick III. [Uozumi Masayoshi]

ドイツのブランデンブルク辺境伯フリードリヒ1世の息子。1464年クルンバハ･バイロイト侯国を継承，ニュルンベルクを抑えてホーエンツォレルン家のフランケン公国創設を企てるが果たさず，70年兄フリードリヒ2世を継いでブランデンブルク辺境伯･選帝侯，73年家法による辺境伯領の不分割と長子相続を確定した。帝国軍指揮官としてフリードリヒ3世帝期の帝国改革に重要な役割を果たした。【魚住昌良】
