A type of teppanyaki. It is made by adding seafood, meat, cabbage, or other ingredients of your choice to wheat flour dissolved in water and grilling it. It can also be used as a sweet, sake snack, or light meal. In the Edo period, monjiyaki, which involved baking letters out of seasoned wheat flour, was popular, and in the Meiji period, it became a business aimed at children. As people would beat drums while selling it at their food stalls, it was also called "dondon-yaki," and the name was later corrupted to "monjayaki." It is said that okonomiyaki developed from this monjiyaki. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
