...Some species transmit plant pathogens such as viruses when absorbing sap. Well-known species native to Japan include the pear-parasitic Stephanitis nashi , which parasitizes and damages pears, apples, and cherries; the azalea-parasitic S. pyrioides , which parasitizes azaleas; the crested parasitic S. takeyai , which parasitizes and damages Japanese androphytes and persimmons; and the chrysanthemum-parasitic Galeatus spinifrons , which damages chrysanthemums. Of these, the azalea-parasitic S. crested parasitic S. spinifrons and S. crested parasitic S. japonica are known to have invaded North America and other places with seedlings.
