Ogieroyu (first generation)

Japanese: 荻江露友（初世） - おぎえろゆう

...A type of shamisen music. The first Ogie Royu was a Nagauta singer, but retired in 1768 (Meiwa 5), and created a style of Nagauta in the style of a parlor song in the Yoshiwara red-light district (Suisen Tanzen, Momoyoguruma, etc.), becoming the founder of Ogie-bushi. There are also works that are strongly influenced by Meriyasu (Inabune, Komachi, Kisen, etc.).

The first generation Ogie Royu was attracted to the delicate melody of this song and transferred it to his own style, and today it has become a representative song of Ogie-bushi rather than the preceding Nagauta. In addition to Fujita Yoshitsugu I, the singers of this period included Ogie Royu I, who later moved to the pleasure quarters and founded Ogie-fu Nagauta (later Ogie-bushi), Sakata Senshiro I, Kode Ichijuro I, shamisen players Nishikiya Soji, Nishikawa Okuzo, Kineya Sakujuro I, Kineya Rokusaburo II, and musicians Uno Choshichi and Tanaka Denzaemon III. The An'ei and Kansei periods (1772-1801) were a transitional period in which Nagauta shifted from its dependence on the Kansai region to Edo tastes, and from the content-oriented song-like Joruri-style Nagauta to dance music based on rhythm, and Nininwankyu and Kumo no Hiyoushimai were representative pieces of this period....
