This large building was built after the death of Symeon (c. 390-459) to commemorate the faith he created while still alive, by asceticizing (asceticism) for over 30 years on a pillar about 15 meters above the ground. The first pillar ascetic was Simeon (c. 390-459) of Syria, who was not satisfied with the usual ascetic practices and climbed pillars so that he would not be disturbed by others.
