Li Fang Ying (English spelling)

Japanese: 李方膺 - りほうよう（英語表記）Lǐ Fāng yīng

1695‐1754
A Chinese painter from the mid-Qing dynasty. Born in Tongzhou (Nantong, Jiangsu Province). His pen name was Xu Zhong. His pen names included Qingjiang, Qiuchi, Yiyuan, Jiyuan, and Muzi. He was a wise and excellent official in the early years of the Yongzheng era (1723-35), and served as county magistrate in Lanshan, Shandong Province, and Hefei, Anhui Province, but resigned from his post due to his arrogant and unrestrained personality. He lived with the Xiang family in Nanjing, and later moved to Yangzhou, where he became friends with Yuan Mei, Jin Nong, and Zheng Xie. He was one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou. He excelled in painting pine, bamboo, and orchids, and was most skilled in painting plum blossoms in ink. He has a collection of poems titled Meihualou Shisho.

中国，清代中期の画家。通州(江蘇省南通)の人。字は虬仲（きゆうちゆう）。号は晴江，秋池，抑園，借園，木子など。雍正(1723‐35)初年の賢良方正で，山東省蘭山，安徽省合肥の知県を歴任したが，傲岸不羈（ごうがんふき）の性格のため官を辞し，南京の項氏に寄寓し，のち揚州に移り住み，袁枚（えんばい），金農，鄭燮（ていしよう）らと交友した。揚州八怪の一人。松竹蘭菊の画をよくし，墨梅を最も得意とした。詩集の《梅花楼詩鈔》がある。
