Born: 25 February 1682 in Forli
Died: December 6, 1771, Padua Italian anatomist and pathologist. The father of pathological anatomy. Graduated from the University of Bologna in 1701. After studying at the University of Pisa and the University of Padua, he became an assistant to A. Valsalva (1666-1723), a disciple of M. Malpighi, at his alma mater. In 1715 he became professor of anatomy at the same university, a position he held until his death at the age of 89. He established his reputation as an anatomist by publishing Adversaria anatomica (6 volumes, 06-19). His main work, De sedibus et causis morborum per anatomen indagatis (61), is written in the form of a letter to physicians for each chapter, and contains approximately 700 dissected cases with accurate descriptions of each disease.
