An insect of the Diptera family, family Catocalidae. It can be found wherever honeybees are kept. It is small, about 1.5 mm long, and like spider flies, it lacks wings and compound eyes, but has a haltere. It parasitizes the thorax of honeybees and at first glance looks like a mite. Its legs are densely covered with setae, and the comb-like setae on its tarsus are suitable for attaching to the setae on the honeybee's body. It is oviparous. It is said that the adult licks the honey and royal jelly exhaled by honeybees. Its eggs are laid in the brood chambers of honeybees.
