Composer. Born in Tokyo. A direct descendant of Motoori Norinaga, his pen name was Nagayo. Graduated from the Tokyo Music School in 1908 (Meiji 41). In his early years, he released a fairy tale opera "Tsuki no Kuni" (Land of the Moon) and a small opera "Yume" (Dreams), but later produced many excellent children's songs and songs that incorporated Japanese elements, and played a part in the rise of children's songs from the Taisho to the early Showa periods. In 1920 (Taisho 9), he started the "New Japanese Music Movement" with Miyagi Michio and others, and had a major impact on the Japanese music world. His major works include "Akai Kutsu," "Aoi-me no Ningyo," "Seven Children," "Bee Mee Koyagi," and "Jugoya Otsuki-san."
