In Japanese and English, different words are used for daytime flying things, such as butterfly, and nocturnal things, such as moths. In German, there is a word Falter (or Schmetterlinge) that combines the two, and butterflies are called Tagfalter (day butterflies) and moths are called Nachtfalter (night butterflies).
