〘 noun 〙 A unit of police officers equipped with the mobility to be dispatched to various locations and the ability to guard groups or crowds. Established in the Metropolitan Police Department and each prefectural police headquarters, they are responsible for regulating collective demonstrations, controlling crowds at festivals and events, and carrying out simultaneous crackdowns. *The Fangs of the Sea (1960) by Tsutomu Mizukami, 13 "Inside, 300 members of the riot police wearing iron helmets were waiting."
