Koito Sasichimono - Koito Sasichimono

Japanese:
Koito Sasichimono - Koito Sasichimono
It is a type of puppet theater, Kabuki, and Kyogen. It is based on a popular song about the sisters of the thread shop in Honcho 2-chome ("Thread Shop Daughter Dance" in volume 4 of "Ochiyoshu" published in 1704), which was sung in the Genroku period (1688-1704), but the actual story is unclear. Based on this song, the original Joruri work "Nisei no Kumi Obi" by Bungo Miyakoji was created at the end of the Kyoho period or around the Genbun period (1730-40), with the elder daughter Ofusa, the younger daughter Koito, and the husband of Ofusa who becomes deeply intimate with Koito as Sadashichi. The first kabuki adaptation of this love story was Satsukimatsu Soga no Tachibana (written by Horikawa Jiji, January 1754 at the Edo Ichimura-za), which was adapted from the world of the Sogas. This was followed by the puppet theatre adaptations Itozakura Honmachi Iku (written by Kigami Taro, March 1777 at the Edo Gaiki-za) and Edo Prideful Love Merchant (written by Tomosaburo and Onikane, March 1777 at the Edo Hizen-za). An adaptation of the former, Honmachi Iku Ukina no Hanako, was performed at the Nakamura-za in May 1777.
