Year of birth: Chowa 3 (1014)
A scholarly monk of the mid-to-late Heian period. A native of Kyoto. Son of Izumo no Kami Tachibana Toshitaka. He studied Hosso Buddhism under the guidance of the head priest of Kofuku-ji Temple. One theory is that he moved from Mount Hiei to Kofuku-ji Temple. Due to his work as a lecturer (such as a lecturer) for the Three Assemblies of Nara (Yima-e, Gosai-e, and Saisho-e), he became a Gon Ritsushi in 1074, and later advanced to Gon Daisozu. He lived at Saion-ji Temple, a subsidiary temple of Kofuku-ji Temple, and served as a priest for the Golden Hall of Hossho-ji Temple and as a bettoman of Horyu-ji Temple. The Touki Dento Mokuroku, compiled in 1093, is famous as a catalog of Buddhist scriptures held by Kofuku-ji Temple and other temples. One of his disciples was Tanshu. He is said to have been fond of eating fish. <References> Inoue Mitsusada, "Research on the History of Ancient Japanese Thought"
