〘 noun 〙 A chill that makes the whole body shiver due to fever. ※Okina Mondo (1650) Vol. 1 "Those who suffer from chills (okan) still feel cold even if they walk and walk again and again." ※Aru Onna (1919) <Takeo Arishima> Vol. 2 "An unpleasant chill (okan) like that a fever patient feels when he touches something cold." [Additional note] The same meaning can also be seen as "akukan." For example, "I had a constant nauseating feeling outside" in Natsume Soseki's "Dousou-kusa-Kyu."

〘名〙発熱のために起こる、全身がぞくぞくするような寒け。※翁問答（1650）上「悪寒(オカン)のやまひある人はわたいりをかさねきても猶さむし」※或る女（1919）〈有島武郎〉後「熱病患者が冷たいものに触れた時のやうな不快な悪寒(ヲカン)」[補注]同じ意味で「悪感」という表記も見られる。例としては、夏目漱石「道草‐九」の「外ではしきりに悪感がした」など。
