Cat's Eye

Also known as cat's eye. The name of a chrysoberyl gemstone that changes color. Because of its fibrous structure, when cut into a cabochon, it shows silky fibers that look like cat's eyes. It is often opaque to translucent with a silky luster and greenish color. It is mainly produced in Sri Lanka, Brazil, Russia, etc., and is very expensive. In addition, minerals that show fibers that resemble cat's eyes, such as quartz that contains parallel fibrous asbestos, are called tiger's eye.

猫目石とも。クリソベリル（金緑石）で変彩を示すものの宝石名。繊維状構造のためカボション・カットしたものはネコの目のような感じの絹糸状繊維光が現れる。絹状光沢，不透明〜半透明，帯緑色のものが多い。主産地はスリランカ，ブラジル，ロシアなどで，非常に高価。また繊維状アスベストを平行に包有する石英など，ネコの目に似た繊維光を示す鉱物を虎目石（タイガーアイ）という。
