Leopold Torre-Nilsson (1924-78) was the man who brought Argentine cinema to prominence. His works from the 1950s and 1960s, including House of Angels (1957), which sharply exposed Argentine bourgeois society, won awards at international film festivals and earned him worldwide acclaim, even going so far as to be called the "Borges of cinema."
