Traditionally, it was thought to have been established in the 1st century BCE based on the description in the sect history, the Heterodox Sect. However, current research suggests that the doctrines of the Dārṣṭāntika (Metaphorists), a heretical group that emerged within the Sāvāda school around the 1st century CE, were refined and compiled by the commentator Kumāralāta and his disciple Śrīlāta, and the Sūtrasiya school was established around the 4th century. However, it seems that there were many other lineages besides Śrīlāta. ...
