Snow Window - Sesso

Japanese:
Snow Window - Sesso
A Zen monk and painter active in the first half of the 14th century during the Yuan Dynasty in China. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born in Songjiang (Jiangsu Province). A master of ink painting, he is said to express the force of the wind by painting orchids, and is unique among the ink paintings of Zen monks, whose style is often free-spirited, in that he does not break the rules in his steady depiction of nature and brushstroke arrangement. He is the author of Garan Hitsuhoki. His name and works have been passed down in Japan since the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and painter-monks such as Bonpo have appeared who studied Setsudo's style.
