Makkadam

Makkadam
British engineer. He went to America as a boy and made a fortune, returning to England in 1783. He then invested his own money into improving roads. He invented the Macadam Road and became road superintendent for the Bristol Turnpike Trust (1815). In 1827, he became Commissioner of Roads for the government.
