...The festival day is October 10th, the day of the Gongen festival, and many villages hold the Konpira Ko's Hichimatsu on this day. The original meaning of the Buddhist word Konpira is crocodile fish, but in China it is called the dragon and the Konpira Dragon King. Konpira faith is a kind of dragon god faith, and is known as the god who protects ships and the seas and saves people from disasters at sea.
