Mount Asahi - Asahidake

Japanese:
Mount Asahi - Asahidake

It is one of the peaks of the Daisetsuzan volcano group in central Hokkaido. At 2,291 meters above sea level, it is the highest peak in Hokkaido. It is located in the southwest of Daisetsuzan, adjacent to Kumagadake and Ushiroasahi-dake, but on the outside. It is the most recent of the volcanoes in the group, and is a cone-shaped stratovolcano whose lava is augite-olivine-andesite. After the formation of the mountain, a large explosion crater opened to the west, and the sulfur vents inside still emit smoke, and sulfur has been extracted from it. Sugataminoike Pond at the bottom of the crater is a single explosion crater filled with water, and a stone chamber is built on the shore. There is a 360-degree view from the peak. The mountain ridge is an exposed rock area, there is a flower garden of alpine plants near Sugatami-no-ike pond, and forests spread below the foot of the mountain. Asahidake Onsen (Yukomanbetsu Onsen) and the area around the stone chamber are connected by ropeway.
