Iranian philosopher and historian. Also known as Ibn Miskawayh. He first served as a librarian to the Buyid vizier Ibn al-Amid in Rey, and in 976 he became a close aide to Azd-ud-Daula in Baghdad, where he served as librarian. Later he served the Khwarezmian dynasty as a physician. He wrote works in Arabic on philosophy, theology, and history, including the historical work Tajārib al-Umam (The Experience of Peoples) and the philosophical and ethical work Tahdhib al-Akhlāq (The Book of Morals). The latter was later translated into Persian by Nasir al-Din Tusi.

イランの哲学者，歴史家。イブン・ミスカワイフ Ibn Miskawayhとも呼ばれる。最初レイでブワイフ朝の宰相イブヌル・アミードに司書として仕え，976年にはバグダードのアズド・ウッダウラの側近となり，司書官をつとめた。のちには医者としてホラズム・シャー朝に仕えている。哲学，神学，歴史に関するアラビア語の著作を残したが，代表的なものに歴史書『諸民族の経験』 Tajārib al-Umam，哲学的倫理書『道徳の書』 Tahdhīb al-Akhlāqがある。後者は，のちのナーシル・ウッディーン・トゥーシーによってペルシア語に意訳された。
